Fiat barchetta

This is a "speedbuild" wich almost completed in one day.

The kit is a Fujimi Fiat barchetta wich is built to replicate my own "Giallo ginestra" (Yellow barchetta)

It's a basic curbside kit built out of the box exept for the wheels. The body had a few small mould lines, but other than that it came together without any fit issues.

The car still needs some exterior details like mirrors, wipers, etc... and the interior detailing needs to be redone, because taking shortcuts did screw up the finish.

Since the body was moulded in orange I skipped the primer, and just lightly sanded the body to give the paint some grip. Painted with 4 layers of Tamiya acrylics yellow and topped with two layers of clear yellow to get the darker tint in the yellow color. 10 mins in the dehydrator between the layers.

The paint is very shiny, but yellow is almost impossible to paint without getting "orange peel". I forgot to sand between the base color and the clear so I guess I'll have to live with it on this car. But you cant see it unless you look very close or zoom in with a camera, so the car is looking great when sitting on the shelf.

The car also needs to be lowered, espescially in the front, and I'm not sure if the wheels are right.

Cute little car isn't it?

Re: Fiat barchetta

Yeah, it is a cute car. The weahering looks good but I notice orange peel from certain angles. However, it is a very very clean build to me for a day build.

@ 356: hey, looks good, clean built.

While adding mirrors etc, you could darken (not blacken) the molds around the doors, engine cover etc. Use some Bare Metal Foil over the door handles.

Re: Fiat barchetta

Very nice weathering! How do you get this result in such a short time?
BTW you can get rid of the orange peel with another clear coat. I had the problem myself and it worked out well. Seems to be not that important what the base color looks like.

The weather technique is actually very easy and fast to do.

5 simple weathering steps wich takes about 30 min.

1. "polish" out the flat black color on the chassis (remove the dusty look) with a toothbrush and q-tip (dont use polish, just brush the parts). If you have used primer then this step won't work very well.

2. brushpaint engine/drivetrain/exhaust details with metal look in 3-4 different alu/silver colors (tamiya acrylics dry in 5-10 minutes). Use a small 0 size brush, no need for masking :-)

3. Blackwash metal parts with flat black heavily thinned in water. and wipe off excess with cotton/q-tip.

4. Drybrush the chassis with silver colors like flat alumium. use a bigger brush wich is heavlily worn, and wipe it against a paper cloth until it almost doesent leave any color on the paper. Then wipe it very light in long stokes over the chassis. When you think it needs just a few more strokes then its time to stop.

5. Drybrush "dirt" and "rust" effect with dark grey/brown/earth colors on drivetrain/exhaust etc...

Done :-)

This technique is quite rough and doesnt give you total controll on how each little part is weathered, but as you can see it gives a quite good result in a very short time, and you can always do a little touch up in the end.
