I been thinkin' about this for a while and I figured to ask for your guy's opinion. I love a mid-engine set up. Just like a Mclaren F1

I would take an mr2 over a fiero any day. They are better in just about every way except that a fiero is a better kit car. Plus the turbo mr2's (91+) haul more ass than any stock fiero could haul in two trips. Older mr2s aren't as awesome but they still handle like mad and are much better cars than the fiero.

I agree.
If you can afford it, a second gen. MR2 is the way to go.

Toyota spent much more on developing the MR2 than GM ever did and its a much better car. However, compared to a Fiero, relatively few were sold, so few are on the used market.
Also I have heard their layout makes some servicing a bit difficult (although Fieros are not exactly simple, either) and parts can be expensive.

The best Fiero by far is the '88 GT with a V6. I would consider these over a first gen. (non-supercharged) MR2, but those '88's are highly desierable and are expensive. Last time I looked nice first gen. MR2's were pretty cheap, (if you can find a good one) and are easily better than any 84-87 Fiero.

MR2 is much more reliable, and better looking.

ide rather go with a fiero....even thow the mr2 might be a great car the fiero has more of an option base than the mr2, with the fiero theres a wide verity of engine swaps you can do like sbc's, caddy 4.9, pontiac gtp 3800sc series II and theres even a kit for a caddy 4.7 DOCH northstar thay will fit into a fiero with little mods to the cradle... pluss fieros are gitting verry rare now with little over 300,000 made though 84-88 it will be a colector soon... check this website out www.fiero.nl and go look in the forums...btw my names HI-TECH on there

There are just as many engine swap options available for the MR2 as well. You should see all the stuff people swap in there: Toyota V6s, SC V6, TT V6, TT V8, Northstart V8, 500ci V8, etc.

Mr2 is less likely to catch on fire as well.

Yeah, but that was a rare occurence in 84 only with the 2.5. It was a fuel line problem that got blown out of proportion; no pun intended

I personally like the looks of the 86-88 Fiero GTs with the fastback over the MR2, but the MR2 is by far a better engineered car in my opinion.

The nice thing about using a transaxle is that all of the chassis torquing is almost non existent. With opposite wheel drive, the engine twists one way and the drive axle twists the other. With a transaxle the chassis is just along for the ride, which is pretty easy since almost all transaxles use a transverse engine.

Re: MR2 or a Fiero?

Even the First gen supercharged MR2 will beat an 88 Fiero GT. MR2 is more powerful and about 300 pounds lighter

First gen MR2s were the best handling car I have ever driven. That thing road rails. And even being a 15 year old car at the time, it felt absolutely solid.
