I Have A Question

I was on the interstate yesterday doing about 75 mph, and in 5th gear, and this guy comes up behind me and was messin with me. I have a slow car (95 Civic CX), and I'm just learning this whole stick shift thing. What could I have done to pass him? (He was in a 92-95 Civic DX sedan). Thanks so much guys

AMY

to pass him you need your engine to rev higher so you have more power so... downshift into 3rd or 4th depending on how much power you need or if your on a steep hill and your strugglin a lil bit downshift

passing him would require swapping your 8-valve head for a 16 valve one, and putting the ex intake manifold on, then you should have no problem passing a dx

Isn't it bad to downshift to third if you're going 75?

I know I need to swap some stuff, but I'm not stopping with just changing the head, I'm going for a B18

i think 4th gear would make more sense you wanna check your rpms when you redline in 3rd so you know how fast and what gear to shift to when you want to accelerate downshifting to accelerate 5 mph faster is pointless for example

the problem is a honda civic cx is 72hp, and no matter where one downshifts, it's not gonna go any faster cause it's 72 hp

Amy,just upshift all your gears at redline(you'll hear the rev limiter or stop when you think the engine is gonna blow )
then you'll know how fast you can go in each gear.
At 75 mph,3rd gear should be near redline,so 4th gear would be better. In my car I know 3rd gear goes up to 85 mph for example.

if you do switch out the head and intake manifold and ecu, then you can go 45 os so in 1st and 90 in second on that tranny. back it up with a turbo and you only have to shift 1 time in a streat race.

This is true, it's annoying.

Seeing as I knew I couldn't really pass him with my 72 hp, I tried to slow down, but he slowed down too

I'm going to get a small aftermarket tach, so I can know a little bit more what I'm doing.

Thanks for the help guys

Don't feel too bad cuz I used to have a crx HF, which is the car yours is the replacement for. I think it was only 68 hp. The one thing that was nice about that engine was almost 50 mpg I got
