Replace or repair my engine

1991 G20 Automatic w/ 52,000 mi. Revved my engine pretty high in low gear trying to enter freeway with oncoming traffic. About 3 miles later I heard a clickity-clacking sound from engine and it started to lose power and miss. I managed to get off at next exit and limp to a nearby parking lot. Had car towed to Infinity dealership. They say I have either a busted piston or broken rod and have recommended I buy a used engine and they will put it in. I can't find a 91 to 93 engine and wonder about repairing this engine. Should I consider repair or replace and what could have really happened to this engine. I read about crank bushings turning over. Could that be it? I live in Chatt, TN. Anyone nearby have an engine for sale?

I would keep an eye on eBay. People have used G20 engines for sale there quite a few times.

Sorry, but I can't help out with the engine question.
If you don't get an answer here, I would try www.g20.net/forum. That forum is another good source.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback folks. I have looked at the Ebay engine and am not familiar enough with the designations to know what year engine the JDM SR20DE is. I will contact the other recommended site for engines as well this morning. The Nissan dealer that I am using tells me that he can only use a '91 to '93 engine because the linkages and so forth are different for newer models. I am an old 1950's mechanic and am not familiar with the new computerized and fuel injected engines with front wheel drive. I just drive them and let someone else fix them. Also Howard asked for my intake cam and I would be glad to comply if I can do so. I will let you know.

I just bought a 92 G20 with a broken rod. The motor is out sitting beside the JDM SR20DE I just bought, it's still wraped on the pallet. I got the motor from Nippon Motors shipped to upstate SC for 667. I ordered the motor friday and received it today. It looks good with all the holes covered up.

I have found an engine at Jason Youngs place (92 w/80,000) that he says runs nice. I will pick it up Friday, 5/24. Jason says that the reason these engines are having rod and rocker arm problems is sludge buildup in the engines due to "low rev" driving. He suggests that this sludge slows or stops the flow in the oiling tubes and lack of oil to the right place causes WEAR and FAILURE. He wants me to keep the revs up to clean out the tubes and get the floating junk back into the filter. It's a theory he thinks is proven by the failures he's seen. Just FYI
