Re: 01 accord bumper paint

welll you wont be able to find the exact same color of paint at a local auto store, so dont try it, i did once because i ahd rust, but the paint looks diff.what you can do is go to the dealer ship and ask them on how much like a bucket of that paint would cost(not sure if they even sell that). if they do sell it and its a resonable price and you have a spray gun than you can do it yourself, but if you dont have a spray gun i would suggest getting the whole car repainted, it would be cheaper in the long run, becaues eventually your going to repaint it, if your still going to be driving it at that time, but for about 1grand i can get it to look like new, but that is if you have the money, but if you dont then just repaint it for 200

Re: 01 accord bumper paint

200 for the bumper is probably a good deal. They take it off to paint it.

How much do you care if it's a perfect match? The auto store stuff is pretty good (provided you use clear coat too).

If you don't mind ordering the paint from online, you can get some touch up paint.

Re: 01 accord bumper paint

The reason the paint is coming off is either it has been hit or was painted incorrectly. To do the job correctly, if it is because of the first reason, it can be touched up and blended if the plastic has not been damaged. The paint will match if it is done professionally. They will add a flex agent so the paint will not crack when flexed a small amount. If it is because of the second reason, the whole bumper has to be stripped and then built up from bare plastic. Most shops farm out the stripping and then they do the painting. So you need to find out why it peeling, then take appropriate action.

Re: 01 accord bumper paint

i have some bumper rash from a collision with a racoon. i dont have any dents, just scratches and chips of paint missing. i have had two paint shops look at the bumper and they both wanted around 400$ to take the bumper off and repaint it. they said that if anyone offers to do it cheaper, it will not be a quality job bc they use a flex agent and mulitple coats and blah blah blah. well, i can live with the rash for now. heh.

I have a 1992 Honda Accord wagon, dark metallic grey with a clear coat. Because the bumpers are "plastic" they gouge and get scraped fairly easily and I have many areas on the front and rear bumpers that need to be "touched up."

For now, I just use a slightly darker "Ford Grey" bottle with a brush to fill in and seal the gouges and abrasions, but this next summer, I'll remove both bumper covers, fill those gouges, sand them and paint them myself in my garage or driveway and save about $400 to $600.

Its really not that big of a job overall and the correct color paint and clear coat is available either at a automotive paint supply or on-line.
