blockoff oil cooler?
Hey, I know this may sound nuts at first, but my car has been down 10 days at least, I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get home. I tried patching the oil cooler return line with JB weld, I tried the method curtis suggested with another line and 3 clamps...nothing worked.
I waited forever for the stock replacement part to come...I get to work and the old line snaps in half and is now lodged together with the 2nd piece of the return line. I've checked every local speed shop, dealership, and auto parts store for either the stock line or the correct SS braided lines and Earl's fittings...every place would have to order them, and at that point I might as well just order them from summit racing. So I posted this: http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread....79#post2767579 Can you read it and tell me how plausible the idea of blocking it off temporarily is? Time is obviously an important factor...thanks SO much. -Geoff

Don't block it off as it is part of the circuit. Blocking it off will 100% starve the engine of oil. You can safely bypass the cooler by making a loop of tubing from the out to the in. In 200 miles of highway driving I can't imagine it will super heat the oil. Can you maybe cut the hard part of the lines and put a piece of hose over each one creating a loop?

Its the oil cooler you're blocking off? I don't know about other guys, but I would just run a pipe and two hose clamps and just bypass it for the time being. Watch you're engine temp, but I wouldn't imagine it to overheat unless you're abusing it on your trip. Most cars don't even have an oil cooler, they usually only do if they're turbo, try to keep your turbo spool down. Sorry for the rant, but basically , drive normal and you should be fine...
