Gas Gauge Woes
The first thing i noticed when i bought my '87 5.0 was that the gas gauge will play tricks on you. Lets say it has a half a tank of gas and the gauge shows a half a tank......5 mins later it will say full. It does this all the time going to where it is supposed to be and back to full again. Why is it doing this? Anyone else had this problem?

Re: Gas Gauge Woes
Could possibly be your sending unit or your gauge float.

It could also be a problem behind your gauge cluster itself. Theres a plastic sheet on the back of the cluster with built in circuitry. If its not making contact properly, the gauge can be real weird sometimes. I had to fix mine before.

Re: Gas Gauge Woes
I'll look on the backside of the cluster, how did you fix yours? Or did you just put another cluster in....That reminds me, my speedo stops at 85 and i know they make speedo's that go to 145, how can i callaborate my speedometer so that it will show the correct speed if i put one of these in?

About the gas guage thing my kinda likes to jump around and sometimes owrk but my dummy fuel light is always worked fine. So when that is on and stays on I know I need to put gas in within 20 miles.

Re: Gas Gauge Woes
i had the same problem when i bought my 87 gt. the gas gauge would read a full tank one minute and the next time i looked at it, it was on empty. so i replaced the sending unit in the tank and it fix the problem.

Re: Gas Gauge Woes
Where exactly is the sending unit? Is it inside the gas tank? Do i need to pull the gas tank to replace it?
