98 horn/cruise/air bag doesn't work

Hi all!

I have a 1998 4runner that is having what I guess is an electrical problem.

Everything forward on the steering wheel is non-functioning. This would include the horn, air bag, and cruise control. I'm assuming the aor bag doesn't work, as the airbag light on the dash stays on. I have removed the column housing and checked the connections and relays and all seems okay. There are no fuses burned and the wiring appears intact throughout.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it a computer thing? I would hate to take this to a dealer and have them bug-hunt for 90.00 an hour.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes! Your right the stealer will charge and charge you and then tell you they can't find it after all.
So order the Factory service manuals ALL THREE. Then go get a GOOD multi-meter, not a cheap $3 one at Kmart but a good one with an audible continuity checker.
Then open the schematics and find the common circuit between all your dead circuits and start there.
The labor rate: 1 beer an hour, when you pass out it's time to quit for the day.
It will be a confusing and arduous task but you will get it and learn a lot too.
Good luck
PS wasn't to serious about the labor rate but treat yourself to some of that $90/hr your saving!!!!

Factory Schematics ONLY!

Factory Schematics ONLY! The other aftermarket schematice are a pure waste of time, each year and model are different in their wiring and the Haynes and Chilton books try to cover ALL models over a mutiple year span by "combining" the schematic pages.
This will cuase anyone a lot of wasted time chasing or looking for wires that don't exist or are elsewhere in the harness.
Been there done that many years ago with a haynes manual I watched it slowly burn in my fireplace, it was the BEST use I got out of that manual, it warmed me up after replacing a timming chain on a 22RE.
