Question Is a 1.8T enough to survive the asphalt jungle?

Can I get some feedback from 1.8T owners? I'm about to purchase a new 2002 A4 CVT and am trying to sell myself on the 1.8T engine and save $5000. The problem, I'm used to driving a 3.0L, non-T, 200 hp vehicle and am hoping the 1.8T can satisfy after the newness wears off and my daily commute grinds on.

The difference between the 3.0L and the 1.8T is right at $5000. Is the 3.0L 220 hp worth the extra $? Can the 1.8T keep me ahead of the non-driving pack of morons I rub shoulders with every day.

with about $500-$800 you can chip your 1.8T and have pretty close to 200 HP. with another $1500 or so you could get up to 220 HP. It's less money, but the 3.0 has some nicer features. Frankly, my 2001 1.8T is enough to get me in trouble and I don't worry about losing the warranty. Check out the AudiWorld forums for more info.

Go the 1.8t. If you need more performance, fit exhaust, chip, BB turbo. And you'll whack the V6. Save yourself some $$$ in the process.

i'm actually looking at the '02 A4 also. my problems with it are 1. you can't get leather seats in the 1.8T. the seats are leatherette....basically not a real cow! 2. you can't get power seats. 3. loss of HP.
off the line, the 1.8 doesn't have much pull....but once you get going, i guess its alrite.
btw, the other cars i'm considering are the IS300 and the beemer.
i do really like the A4 3.0 though. only thing is that once i put all the options in it, the price jumps as high as a base model A6!!!!!!!

The 1.8 turbo will be plenty it saves money too. If you mod it out you can burn tir marks in the fore heads of the morons you rub with everyday. The Boost will help you with those POS High School kids with their Civics. I hate those cars. Weed wacker exhaust systems. But yea the 1.8T is worth it over the 3.0L.

Save your money to spend it on mods for the 1.8T. The A4 is an awesome car I'll see if I can post some facts out of a magazine I have(need to translate it first). But I saw already what you can make out of this car. Belive me it's very impressive:bandit:

Don't mod the 1.8T if you get CVT, it can't handle the additional power so says Audi. The power limit is something like 220 or 230 ft. lbs of torque and chipping will put you either slightly over or way over that depending on which tuner you believe.

If you want to mod the Audi get a 5 speed 1.8T.

I have a chipped 1.8T and I used to own a 5.0L Mustang LX. I can say that my Audi while not quite to the level of my Mustang is very satisfying and I think you'll be happy with it.

That's right the CVT transmissions aren't very strong (for now at least) that's why they cannot be combined with more powerful engines. If you want to mod the car and you're into it , you can get extremely high numbers from 1.8 T (normal manual gearbox) , but it becomes problematic to drive daily if you decide to go over 300 hp , but then again a 240 hp 1.8 t gives you a quite relaxed drive , anyway for daily driving i suggest the V6 , it has more torque and would still pull it hard when you push it... if you want to leave the 1.8t stock , then don't buy it ....
