I have a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac and have had the same reoccuring problems and I don't know if they are related. Sometimes it won't turn over and then randomly (after sitting a day/ few hours) it will start right up. I thought it was fuel related and changed my fuel filter and it was fine for a while. It seems to happen when it is damp out. Then a few months later my check engine light comes on - get it checked out and it it's my gas cap. They reset it, then the light comes on a day later and the truck doesn't start again (same as before)....and it happens to be raining again. This all seems to be related somehow, but I don't know what the problem could be. Anyone with a similar problem????

Re: 2001 Sport Trac Starting Problems (Fuel Related?)
Your problem may be with the DPFE Sensor. I was told by my ford mechanic that there are problems with this. It should be covered by your warranty and since there have been so many problems with it, they should replace it even if your are over the 36K base warranty period. Check it out.

Re: Re: 2001 Sport Trac Starting Problems (Fuel Related?)
Thanks I'll read up some more on the DPFE sensor. Unfortunately, I am over my warranty period with 51,000. Is this something that is expensive to fix?
Thanks for your help. |
