Me and a 5.0

I've had these encounters before, but the last one I had, and the only one I ever posted was the sprint I had with Brandon (90redgt), and his GT on the old motor.

Anyhow, there was a time I wouldn't post any of these encounters, as I was afraid it would just start a flame-war with the doubters and non-believers, but since I have Brandon to back me up, I'll post this this time.

It looked to be a 1986, and upon further research, I think it was:

It looked almost exactly like that, except it was white. Same rims even. It was also a 'vert.

Anyhow, I went to rent a movie, and I decided to go driving bit, as it was nice outside, with the temps in the mid 70's, I think. I see the Mustang fly past me, as it sees its natural enemy up ahead: a 1980's Camaro. I saw the Mustang driver: looked young, maybe 17, and he seemed happy with the sound of his Ford pushrod. It did sound good, although it seemed stock.

The Camaro itself seemed to be an IROC, had primer paint, and aftermarket turn-downs - but it didn't really sound so healthy.

Traffic clears ahead of them, and they split this one car, as they both go around roaring.

I stomp on it, already ready in third at about 60mph, and to my surprise, the two cars didn't really pull on me, or on each other. As a matter of fact, I started to gain on both.

Anyhow, I stayed on it, and pass them just as they got off the throttle. Both cars were behind me, and I see the Mustang's lights jump up, just as I was throttling-down. The Camaro stayed behind. Don't ask me why. I was directly behind him during his, and the Mustang's race, and he saw my headlights gaining - that's my self-serving theory anyways.

So, I wait until the 5.0 is about three cars behind me, as I'm rolling at about 60mph again, to nail it in third, figuring to make it even, as he had a long stretch to accelerate behind me (NO traffic, whatsoever - this was at far, FAR west Bell Rd. - for you AZ peeps).

We stay even for about 2-3 seconds, and I start to walk slowly. Light comes up, and there's one open lane, and I take it, with the 'Stang right behind me.

I take-off brisk at the light, but not too fast, to see if Mustang-boy was going to try again. He does.

I take it all the way to 110-or-so this time, as I had three lanes to play with, on a road surrounded by rails (no cop hiding places), and no traffic ahead.

I was a good 7-8 cars ahead of him by the time I let-off (judging by his headlights). I know it wasn't that fair, as he started somewhat behind me, but he had the jump - and I KNOW he was just TOO happy with that 'Stang. He might've let-off, but he wasn't falling back too fast even in the end, so I wouldn't think so.

I'd say I just earned that 'Stang some mods.

For the nay-sayers, the 1986 'Stang 5.0 had 200HP to work with, and this car was a 'vert (top up), which probably makes it just about the same weight as Brandon's GT coupe, and Brandon had at least 250HP to work with, maybe more, when I matched him on our freeway run.

Re: Me and a 5.0

always a good story. for those who dont believe you, they do not know the stats on your car as. the regulars on here know what your car is capable of. you are basically stock with what, a cone filter and a timing bump? i think thats all. of course, as always keep up the good work.

now what about running a REAL mustang.

Re: Me and a 5.0

like carnut and kittedb18bt said, this is a legit story. When me and carnut ran i had gears, full exhaust (headers, hpipe, catback), intake, pro 5.0 shifter. I swear the only reason i beat his sentra was because of the gears. Well from a dig i mean. 1st i'd jump up half a car, 2nd another half a car. after that he stayed right there with me up to what MPH we raced to can't remember. So yeah carnut can definately hand a relatively modified 5.0 it's ass. Relatively modified i mean by just bolt ons. Like i said the only thing that saved me was my gears.
