horsepower/gasmilage I want more

I just recently bought a0 95 camaro v6 3.4L. I was wondering if anyone has some ideas of how I can get better gas milage and secondly more horsepower. I understand the car is not a race car at 160 hp (factory). I am just trying to get more out of what I got, as I will probably have this car for a 3 or 4 years. I do not know hardly anything about cars (technicly). Thanks in advance for any insight.

buy performance stuff

I would have to say buy platinum spark plugs, msd plugwires, good distributer cap and rotor and a cold air intake. Your not gonna get too much more of what you want unless you buy a chip but this is a start for what you have.

Do 95's even have a cap and rotor. It might have D.I.S.

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to say that gas milage is more important than horsepower. I am not one of those of guys who wants to have loads of horespower, although it wouldnt hurt. It is not realistic to put loads of money into this car. It is a good car, in good condition but it is not a new hot rod. Does anyone beleive in these spiral tornado things that go into your air intake. They are supposed to increase hp and gas milage.

gasmilage/power

intake and exhaust help the gas milage thing a lot and they also help with power. the plugs and wires also help. ofcourse there's a point where horespower hurts gas milage

I/H/E

more efficient tranni and differential.

Perfect alignment of drive line.

Higher compression ratio.

Editing your fuel map.

Electric water pump.

Crank case vacuum pump.

Sump oil pan & pump.

Windage tray.

Underdrive pulleys.

Lighter internal parts.

Less weight - wont help power (no shit right, hehe)

A Turbo kit (intercooled) - adds power without hurting mileage much, till you floor it.

Better radiator.

Having no muffler.

Removing your catalytic converters (cops love that one).

And my favorite...
Add a big wing because they add like 100 hp and help your mileage man!!!
(Only works for a Honda )

do you mean wings?

I don't believe they would.
In fact, they'd probably hurt it a little bit, though I doubt it would be measurable.

The only point of adding a wing is to aid stability at high speed which is lost because of the car's airfoil shape. At higher speeds, a significant lift force is is created because the air is moving faster above the car than below with respect to surface area (more area on top). The wing just helps to oppose this force, but at the same time adds to the total drag force.

If your car is not particularly aero-stable and you plan on driving 90 mpg or above frequently, a wing might be a good idea. But at those speeds no one is thinking of fuel mileage

Re: horsepower/gasmilage I want more

glad to see you dont think power and economy are countering forces. for instance look at the LS6 engine, it makes 50 more hp, and gets 5mpg better.

look into thermal coatings on the piston crown, valve faces, combustion chamber, and exhaust port. anti friction coatings on all bearings, piston skirts, lifter bodies, valve stems, and the like. the most powerful ignition system you can put on that wont melt your plugs. combustion efficency is the key to power and gas mileage. anything you can do to reduce friction inside the engine, lower the weight of the rotating assembly with lightweigh cranks, rods and pistons. freer flowing intake and exhaust will add power and make the engine work less hard making better gas mileage. try any or all of these ideas and you should see soem results.
