I got rear-ended and am thinking about getting the Calmini rear bumper/tire carrier (or waiting for the EOE one if it comes out anytime soon), to replace my stock setup. I have not done any modifications to my suspension. Do you think it will be a problem to add the extra wieght to the rear without an upgrade to the shocks or springs?

It should not be a problem.
I would imagine that it will just make them wear out faster since you are adding weight. Not sure how much the new bumpers weigh compared to the stock. |

FYI
Skid Row also has a rear bumper in the works...

I guess we'll have to see how the Calmini wears the rear leafs. My experience with my tire carrier/bumper was the leafs started to compress more. Obviously the extra weight was one reason, I also think that having the tire out on the rear of the truck might contribute to more strain on the leafs.
Add-a-leafs remedied the problem, and long term I'll replace the leafs with the 10+ ones from National Spring. One other suggestion. Get the AAL's before your springs go completely. They'll work more effectively instead of just trying to restore a shot set of leafs. |
