Trouble starting diesel engine in the winter
I have a 1987 Golf diesel with 130Klicks. Trouble starting in the winter. If kept in the underground parking, it starts no problem, but if left outside when temperature drops below 20F, it does not start. Any hints on what should I do to improve start up will be much appreciated. I use the block heater whenever I'm near an outlet, but not always possible. Used to be really good a few years ago, but for the past 2 winters I had to get it towed. Please help. Thanks.

Hi,
Check spark plugs (in diesel engine it is other name, sorry) and change. In cold turn ignition key 2-3 times (wait for yellow light on the dash panel off and turn again) and then start the engine. It helps. If the problem stays check the engine. Walter |

http://www.powerservice.com/antigels.asp Good luck. Also, have you ever checked out www.tdiclub.com. It's a forum dedicated to Volkswagen Diesels. The guys there know quite a bit. |
