people and their misconceptions

i love how people when talking about my car go oh well its a ford... like thats a terrible thing, i guess they arent reliable and they are slow. atleast thats what im told, to bad ive owned two and they have both been very reliable, anyway i always proceed to tell them how my uncle raced late models in a field of 28 chevys and he was the only ford, he used over the counter ford parts all of which were the ford equivelents of the chevy parts. well while those other guys were runnin 21 sec laps he was runnin 19s, infact he started winning to much and the race track eventually began banning his ford parts. thats just one of my favorite stories when people who know nothing about cars start talkin crap

yea ive noticed that too, chevy guys seem to much more brand loyal than ford guys are, im not saying ford people arent at all, but ford seems to take the brunt of the insults from others. just think of it as the bully syndrome, theyre too insecure so they pick on us heh

Re: people and their misconceptions

i have 3 fords (02 f250, 03expedition, 05 mustang gt) and 1 chevy (03 trailblazer).

I have never had any problems out of any fords that was anything significant that the dealer didnt fix in a pinch and my trailblazer has had more problems than all of my other vehicles put together.

No more chevys for me.

A lot of people say that cause they don't have any other ammo to fire at you, it's the last ploy of the desperate. Or they will say it's based on some personal expirence. But what they dont tell you is, there mom had an econobox like an Escort drove it 60,000 miles on her daily commute never change the oil or ever looked at anything and something broke on it so the thing is obviously a POS and Ford's fault.

I have plenty of F-body friends and it's all friendly ribbing wit them but when they try that shit I ask if any of them have had an F-body motor last over 120,000 or shit even 290,000 like my 83 GT. None of have and shut-up quick. But it really doesn't bug me either way.

The thing is, I don't need their or anyone's validation in what i choose to spend my money on. I know there good cars and that's all that matters to me.

Since Chevy fans like to talk about Ford being crap, I thought I'd share a true story.

When dad was looking for a new car he wanted an IROC Z-28 before a 5.0. Well he went to the Chevy dealer and got everything he wanted, excpet, the standard transmission. The dealer told him, "We're sorry but Chevy's fuel injection system can't handle a standard 5-speed like you'd like. We can promise you that you'll get a nice top of the line automatic though!"
Dad didn't want an automatic though, he wanted a standard. He went over to a Ford dealer and asked them for the same options as he had asked for with the Chevy dealer. They told him they could do everything including the 5-speed he wanted. Dad says he has never looked back since then and is happier that he went with the 5.0.
He also says that because two months after he got the 5.0 an IROC met him on the road. I think you all know how that turned out because afterwards he was even happier with the car he went with.

Re: people and their misconceptions

I've owned just about every brand under the sun, and I can't really say one is better than the other. What I can say thou, is that my mustang has been the easiest to maintain or repair. Next to that, it's been the Honda's and BMW's. The car's absoluted hated to work on... the F-body's with half the friggin engine under the dash ARRGG. The only more difficult car.. the Porche's. Toyota and Chevy make things a bit over complex. Nissan, hit or miss. Dodge.. well again hit or miss. Mercedes... forget it.

So I'll stick to the Fords, BMW's and Honda's.

My first car performance car was a 88 Dodge datona decent car but I couldn't keep a clutch or cv joint in it. Ive had several f bodys. The last one was an 87 IROC. I did a few mods to it but mustangs would hand it to me all the time. I looked at the new newer f bodys but the position of that motor was a real turn off for me. So I bought my stang and never looked back. Stangs are great cars to work on and respond very well to mods.
