Problem with 2000 grand prix!

I have a question my car is acting really funny. It gets down to about a quarter of a tank and acts like it wants to die. The RPMs stay at about a little over 2 when stopped at a stop light. When you let your foot off the brake it wants to take off and go and I don't even have to put my foot on the gas. It just keeps speeding up on its own. I try to slow down with the brake and it keeps speeding up. What can this problem be!!

Is your check engine light ( service engine soon light) on? Either way, have the vehicle scanned for any computer codes that may be stored. If you want to try to check yourself, check to see it the throttle cable is not binding under the hood and is releasing properly. It may be your Throttle Position Sensor, but should throw a code.
