My Car Art

Hello,

Just thought I post some art I have done.

I wanted to see what people think.

I used marker, pastel, color pencil, graphite and photoshop.

Thanks for checking them out and giving some input.

Wow. Those are pretty damn beautiful. I especially love the Ferrari. Do you use an existing picture for reference, or just do it completely from scratch? Either way, really good stuff!

sweeeeeeeet. I'm just now getting the hang of drawing cars that look realistic.. hard stuff.. then again, I draw toons, so all my cars kinda have that slightly dramatic look. Nice drawings!

what markers do you use and how many do you have.?

do you use marker paper, or just normal paper?

what size paper do you use?

have you ever used an airbrush?

i havent done that many coloured drawings recently, so i cant show you mine...unless i dig up some that i did 2 years ago when i was learning

Below I have answered some questions

First I must give credit.
I read the book How to Draw Cars Like a Pro by Thom Taylor
I also have a 2000 year calender by the same author/artist Mr. Taylor

I do use reference photos. I beleive you must unless you have the cars memorized or something. I think even the experts use reference photos unless they are simply designing a new car. I ask folks in the model car gallery forum if I can use their photos for references. Technically you should ask the photographer.

I use Prisma Color markers (don't buy sets buy the colors you need)
If your locol store does not have the colors you want order them online.
I used misterart.com try to order 30$ worth so you make good use of the shipping charges.
I have about 20 markers
I use 14x17 Strathmore Bristol Vellum, I am going to try Bristol Smooth also

(Remember check your local art store first)

I do not use an air brush. The pastels allow me to get an airbursh look with out one.
I use 14x17 because that is the size of the scanner I have access to. I do the artwork first, scan it, and then mess with it in Photoshop. Look at the RX-7 it almost looks like water color. Well I did that using the filters in Photoshop. I am not that good with Photoshop but I am learning.

I am 28yrs old and I cannot believe I wasted all those art classes and years (high school) doing just pencil and pen. I have even had the Thom Taylor book since 1997 and just started to apply his teachings. So please start using color it is so much better. These are the first color works I have every done. I did the graphite mitsu first to warm up my ark skills.

iv got that exact book. iv had it since 2000, but iv hardly had chance to do much with it.

i also use pastel instead of an airbrush ( i cant afford one)

I just want to say thanks for the continuing complements.

I am finishing another RX-7 (Sevens are not my favorite cars it just ended up that way) I plan on doing a few Skylines next.

Man, you have serious drawing skills. I hope you plan to put those skills to use in the real world. You could be a customizer at a local customs paint shop. And if its something you love to do, why not have fun while making money.

Hey I'm an artist too!
but I post 99% of the time in the 240sx forum.
Heres a little somethin I drew in math class instead of doing my work.
I never drew some rims(couldnt nake up my mind on what kind to draw)
All hand drawn.I used color pencils,lead pencil,and a felt tip pen.
No computer.

I got a toyota supra that I did on scratchboard on the way that i just finished in art class so look out...
