Is your cable siezed? If it's an automatic, chances are the handbrake was not used too often. When they aren't used, they can sieze up, at least they did in the older cars. Check if the cable is siezed, if not, take the center "console" (too small to really call it that) by unscrewing the two screws at the front of the seats, and then two right on the side of the seats (You'll have to adjust the seat to get at the screws) After unbuckling the seatbelts from the window rails, pull it up and back, you'll see the cable, etc. There's a lil switch that the lever's position actuates. As far as I know... this is the only check in the line, so a siezed cable may not even be making the light stay on.. Check the switch's position, is it stuck, is it improperly adjusted? If everything checks out allright, and you're not rubbing on the rear, pull the bulb n forget about her.
