Question Firebird Rear Problemmm! help

My friend has a V6 auto firebird 99 and he ruined his rear end(non posi) just from recklessness. would it cost alot more for him to buy a posi rear for his bird and if not what is a reasonable price for a non posi. Also the cost of labor if you guys have any idea

I'm 99% sure that even the V6 got a posi rear end but all the rear ends on 4th gen's will bolt up but you can't put 3 series gears in 2 series and vice versa

Re: Firebird Rear Problemmm! help

I will double check on it but when you look up RPO codes on 4th Gen's for rear ends it only gives you G80 which is Posi Traction rear

Very few cars have a positive traction rear end nowaday. Trans ams, Camaros ect all have limited slip. Not posi. Only diff is posi trac makes both wheels turn at same time, all the time, which causes some problems. Newer cars have limited slip in which only both tires turn when one looses traction ie. burnout. but under normal conditions only one tire is getting the power. Thats why on a posi or limited slip car it likes to get sideways and loose control on a long burnout. Most all v6 dont have posi or limited and only one tire spins in burnout, and you keep most control. only older muscle cars have full posi which hurts handling in turns and such. I not positive but i think this is correct.

Re: Firebird Rear Problemmm! help

OK I checked and V6's did not come with code G80 so I was wrong sorry for giving incorrect info but I think they don't even have a code for the V6 standard rear end anyway check out this site they have plenty of used parts and I bet he could pick up a Posi rear real cheap www.car-part.com

Re: Firebird Rear Problemmm! help

I believe you can buy the whole rear which would include disc brake conversion but besides that its just a bolt in procedure
