Engine actting weird and the raditor is leaking

The other day I decided to rev the engine while it was in park, around 4000 rpm the engine started to bog, sorta like it was surging like a heart beat. The raditor is leaking, possible from a line but maybe from the raditor itself, the muffler and exhaust pipe where recently changed (about 3 months ago). The transmission also isn't working how it used to, seems like the clutch doesnt let go of the flywheel quickly and it sometimes locks in a gear when driving quickly, for example if I floor it at a start the automatic transmission will shift to 2nd and maybe 3rd but not change till the 4th gear until I let go of the gas. The car is a 96 ford taurus gle 3.0L. It has been running fine but this year it started having problems. The suspension in the rear-right has to be changed or rebuilt due to it making a small (almost un-noticable) thump. The engine surging is the only thing im concerned about??? If you have any ideas on what it might be please dont hesitate.

Re: Engine actting weird and the raditor is leaking

I had a '91 with the 3.0L six, and when I first noticed that I was also concerned. I was told by the people at the Ford dealership that it is a built in safety feature so as to not let the driver over rev the engine. May be right, may be wrong, but sounds reasonable. I'm not familiar with the engine on the '96, but I have had a '91 and now have a '94 with 173K and both had to have the little hoses on the top of the engine replaced do to little pin hole leak. Might want to check there. Dan

Usually the dealer is wrong, but in this case they're right. The engine computer will cause the engine to cut out when you rev it over 4000rpm while in park. Sounds like it's functioning how it's supposed to.
