Trick Flow

I have been thinking about holding off on the 351 and finishing it at a later date. My dad seems to think i should build the 302, but keep it fuel injected. I have been looking at Trick Flow intakes, heads, and cams. Along with BBK tb's ect. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do to get atleast 400 rwhp. That would be keeping the AOD too. I can bore, stroke, or turn 7000 rpms, it doesnt matter to me. My goal is just 400rwhp.

400 WHP is going to take approx 470 at the flywheel with a standard and 500 at the flywheel with an auto, asuming 15% and 20% drivetrain losses, respectively. I have an MM&FF here thats a couple years old that lists some fairly solid 302 and 351 combos. Here is a 347, 10.2:1 compression, eagle H-beam rods, AFR 185's CNC ported, vic jr. intake, 750 speed demon with a 1" spacer, 1 3/4 long tubes, 232/240 .565/.574 w/1.6 hydro cam, final output was 486 HP @ 6200 453 ft-lbs @ 5300. That is about as much power as you can make out of a 302 with a hydraulic roller, but even spinning to 6200 RPM's would make me feel pretty uneasy running a stock 302 block after a while, you gotta remember they are VERY prone to splitting in half. IMHO, go with a 351, even if it's just a .030 over motor with stock crank and rods, you will hit your goal much easier and much more reliably with a 351.

If you don't stroke and bore it you will have to spin it to the moon(7,000+rpm) N/A to get those HP numbers. That type of motor will be useless on the street cause you will be needed to launch it at 4,000rpm's to do it properly. So you have no choice but to go 347 for starters and even then your goal is not a guarantee. Also you are gonna need an aftermarket AOD to put behind the motor or ya AOD will be dead in a heartbeat.

Re: Trick Flow

I found c-4 for $50 just needs to be rebuilt. But the 351w i have planned is gonna cost me about $7k on the motor alone. But that was about 500whp. I may just keep it stock with a few common bolt-ons till I get outta school. TB spacer, pulleys, 1.7 rr's, maybe a bigger TB, 3.73's, and possibly zex for a while. Just to have some fun with it. I hate driving around all the time with a stock motor barely putting out 200 hp.

For 7K you could build a dart-blocked motor, throw a YSi-Trim on it, and beat the living snot out of your N/A motor. That's way too much money to spend for a N/A street car motor.

Re: Trick Flow

I was planning on building it for the track, with streeability in mind. It wouldnt have been an every day driver. Just maybe 1 or 2 days a week. Only part about that motor i didnt especially like was the fact that I would have to run a vacuum can.
