T5 tranny - Slight pause when shifting

I just rebuilt a T-5 tranny. I bought it used and had to replace the cluster gear in it which means a total disassembly of the tranny. This is the first time I cracked one open so I followed the T-5 manual closely. Now that I have the tranny into the car and there is a slight pause when shifting from gear to gear. Even though it's a short pause (1 second) this slows down my shifting bigtime when I'm shifting from 1st - 3rd because I have to wait before it slips into the next gear. I sometimes also have to play with it a little bit to get it to slide into reverse. Is this a synch problem? I made sure when I took the synchs out and put them back in that they stayed matched up. If it is a synch problem do they need completely replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you reuse your old blocking rings? those are the bronze rings between the shifter sleeves and speed gears. if you did, shame on you. they're relatively cheap and should always be replaced whenever you rebuild a tranny. also, check the inside of the shifter sleeves and make sure the points on the synchro teeth are still good. check the dog teeth on the speed gears... i could go on and on. knowlege is 90% of the battle here, make sure you do some homework and get to know as much as you can about tranny operation before the next time you tear into one =)
