95 Chev horn pad removal
I had posted this in the pickup forum before I found this one. No response there, maybe this will do better. I'm trying to change the turn signal/multifunction switch in my '95 Chev C2500. Manual says to "pull off the horn pad" to get to the steering wheel nut. I've pulled, tugged, pried and cussed at it until I'm about ready to blow the air bag to get it off. Anybody have a better idea?

Re: 95 Chev horn pad removal
I have heard they are hard to get off. They have some kind of mechanical release between the air bag and the wheel. I am not sure exactly how to do it, but I saw a mechanic with a slim screw driver working on taking one off. Get a light and look, or call a dealer and ask. Better than a dealer, go to a body shop and ask someone there.

Since today was Sunday, I couldn't ask anybody at shops, so I went out with the bright afternoon sun on it and could finally see the retaining clips that snap into grooves on four tapered pins mounted on the steering wheel. They're hard to see and get to. The factory manuals were no help at all here....one of the few times they didn't have the procedure well documented. Maybe I missed something somewhere.
I took pictures of the details. If anyone else needs help with this, just email me. Thanks for your input billy2, it gave me an idea what to look for! |
