RB series swap and Air conditioning
Hello all,
As some of you know, my 95 s14 is in mid strip down/rebuild. I have the old engine/tranny out, the interior is striped for refinishing, the Rear diff is replaced, brakes are here awaiting installation, and most of the suspension parts are here. The front end body work repair is in progress, (minor damage, no frame, or suspension damage at all.) and finally I think I have my fuel solution plotted (Big thanks to you aussie skyline freaks!). After much research, I have decided to go with the RB26DETT with the RWD GTS tranny. I have found almost everything I need for the swap, to include how to keep the factory twins. (thought I may just go single from the get go, still deciding on that one.) I have a good source for the engine and tranny, and I should have the engine here within 90 days or so. I do have 2 questions though. I am still working on the AC. Before I get any "open the window comments" I'm british, I live in Dallas, I am getting older, and it is hot as hell here. I will have AC. So have any of you RB swappers kept your AC? Did you use the skyline compressor, or the 240sx compressor? Any and all info is as always much appreciated.I also am curious about how people have done thier gauge cluster, swap in the skyline cluster from the clip, or scrap a factory cluster, and use after market gauges? if after market, what fuel gauge did you use? Also, Anyone have a digital copy of the English RB26 shop manual? (R33) Cheers mates, and thanks for all your help! (I am working on a website which I will get serious about once the engine is here, and the real work begins.) |

Re: RB series swap and Air conditioning
No One As Of Now Has A/c That I Know Of.... But It Is Not A Simple Matter As I Thought. I Tried Swapping Plugs With The Ka Harness But I Get No Feed To The Ecu To Regulate Engine Speed And It Dies. I Hard Wired The Ecu And Now The Engine Accelerates Rapidly And Heats Up Quickly, So Now I Have To Find A Relay/resistor Pack To Regulate The A/c Circuit. This Is Being Done On A Rb20 Mind You Even Though It Will Be The Same For The Rb25 And 26.

Re: RB series swap and Air conditioning
I just had a great conversation with the most knowledgalbe rb swapper I have met to date. Looks like best way to keep AC is to piggy back the factory ECU to run the AC system, but with the skyline compressor.
Good idea, but I still need to plot out the details. |

Good Luck Because Now You Are Going To Have To Program The Ka Ecu To Control Engine Speed In The Rb. Who Did You Talk To?

hmmmm, good point, when the AC compressor is turned on, the skyline ECU will not know about it and will not adjust idle speed, and it will stall the engine?
If I understand it, (and I openly admit to being clueless on the subject) the issue lies in that the 240 stock ac system is diffrent entirely to the skyline AC system, so the skyline ecu can not control the 240 system, and you would have to manuly cycle the system to prevent freeze up. If you use the factory computer, it will cycle, but be unable to control engine speed at idle, correct? |
