need HELP AND ADVICE on old nissan! PLEASE!!!!
hi all i know im way out of my league here. i have an older nissan maxima 1984 but its a great little car. sun roof, stereo/cd 10 in speakers needs a new paint job .. my question is the other day i gassed it up came home from work parked it. the next day the car would not start. it tryes to start but it just wont turn over. i eventually drained the battery from trying to start it. i now just bought a new battery , changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs, and cables thinking it was due for a little tuneup.. and alas it will still not start it still has 1/2 a tank of gas in it. and i really dont know much more about mechanics except changing the plugs oils, cables and adding gas to it.. would anyone have any idea what else i could do maube get it staterted to atleast drive it to a mechanic shop? i hope some one here can help

Could also be fuel related, though you usually get a start al least for a little bit. Fuel pump would let the engine crank without turning over. That would make sense espesially after you had taken care of the electrical possibilities.
Good luck! Will |

Re: need HELP AND ADVICE on old nissan! PLEASE!!!!
If you can smell a gas when cranking (from exhaust, of course) it’s a good probability fuel lines work properly. Then check for spark. If no gas smell at all, here are 2 possibilities: fuel pump line (fuses, relay, wires, fuel pump itself) or injectors line: wires, fuses (if exist.) If it’s carburetor, you need cleaning job or new fuel filter (or both.) If fuel lines are OK, check for spark. If no spark, it could be the distributor, ignition coil or main wire from ign.coil to distributor problem. Weak spark = no spark. First of all check for blown fuses.
If it seems turn over slowly, most likely the starter is dying (the battery supposes to be good.) This is exactly what happened with my max.; 2 weeks the car’s been dead. Finely, changing the starter solved the problem. Hope this helps, good luck. Last edited by borriss; 01-02-2004 at 02:56 PM. |

It could be the fuel pump. I think some one already said that. But anyway that happened to me and it ended up being the fuel pump. That is my suggestion, check the fuel pump.
