EGR ??? like a switch - ON then OFF and then ON again

Hi there,
I have a GMC Safari 95 - 4.3 Vortec 2WD. Good car.
One day, the engine stopped running. I was on the Highway and he started running again. It was just for 1 sec - After that it happened again in time, but with no specific delay. I went to the Service and they told me that maybe the EGR is the problem. The symptom is like a gap in fuel transit - like a switch - ON then OFF and then ON again. For 2 times ...the car stopped and never wants to start in the same day. It was just like no gas....But the second day...everything went fine...it started.
Any suggestions, please?!
