My 90 cherokee has a top-heavy feel in the steering. Other Cherokees I had seem to get same problem. Mechanic has put in new steering box but I don't think that is the problem. New tie rod ends, dampener have helped but slight "bobble-head" feel is still there. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have a 91 Cherokee with a similar problem. It "chatters" between 55-60 mph, but doesn't seem to do it for speeds higher or lower than that. My mechanic didn't know what it was, said everything looked fine. So I replaced some of the sway bushings in the front end b/c they had rotted out and that seemed to have tightened her up a little, but she still "chatters". The aftermarket lift and larger tires on my cherokee probably don't help the front end either.
Anyway, if you get it fixed I would be interested to know, this way I can see if it fixes my problem. |

Re: Cherokee "Bobble" in Steering. Help!!
heheh you need a viscous coupling in the transfer case. 231j or 242j same thing. parts are expensive for it. wish all you people could come to my shop, all i do is jeeps. hehe well thats most likely your problem there, pretty much you'll notice it on u-turns.
