ebay is about the only place now. look out for the ut road cars, they are the best altho they fetch $100+ now, maisto are ok, i have one and its decent. the ut gtrs are the best. don't bother even looking at the guiloy ones, imo they aren't that good

I've got a Guiloy one. It's a red prototype LM. Got it off scale18.com. It's supposed to be a prototype LM, so it should look like the XP1 LM, but it doesn't. The hood scoop is from the F1 roadcar and so is the exhaust configuration. If you want to see what the front looks like, go to the thread titled "pics of my latest investment" and the first photo is pretty much it. Right now I really want a Maisto one in dark blue or silver but I'm not willing to spend over $50 on it.

i wanna get the ut 1st edition xplm, i lost it about 5 months ago by $1, some guy out bidded me by like $1.05 with 5 seconds to go

the F1 LM is probably one of the most difficult ones to get other than a specific F1 GTR. i regularly keep track of cool McLarens to see how much they go for. this guy is selling both of the UT Models F1 LM editions TOGETHER...

I've recently started to collect the 1/18 UT Mclarens. What i can say for sure is that overall, the mint, boxed LMs appear to command the highest prices.

I recently picked my one up on eBay for EU81,00, (£GBP55.00/$US93.00) , including insured shipping. It's a Series 1, i.e. twin blade rear aerofoil, and centrally mounted roof ariel, mint undisplayed condition, in the original box with the door strapping still in place.

No disrespect, but if you can afford it, go for the UTs over Maisto or Guiloy; it's worth it, (yes, i've seen/owned the others).

UT 530-133180 ut133180b appears to be the rarest, if the 1/200 figure relates to the amount made and issued; less than a real one!

Still waiting for a reasonably priced 1/12 to come up, but they're all going for over £GBP250 on eBay etc.

My problem with the original UT F1 LM is that except for the double plane rear wing, the rest of the body details make it look less like the actual LMs - especially in the nose area and the surrounds around the tailpipes. That is why UT offered the second version so it surprises me that the double plane ends up being more valuable. It might be more rare, but it is less correct. Most people probably don't even realize that.

I have a decent collection of the UT 1/18th scale cars -

Silver F1 road car
Green F1 road car
F1 LM (single plane wing)
#59 Ueno Clinic GTR
#51 Harrods GTR
#34 Gulf GTR
#53 Frank Muller GTR (I have 2 - one I plan to attempt to refinish to match GTR #10R)
#8 FINA long tail GTR
Black F1 GT long tail road car

On the last one, I have removed the rear wing since the real F1 GT didn't have one. I wish that UT had built it that way.

Next on my list to purchase is a long tail Gulf GTR - I'm not sure how many others I will add after that. I'm not a collector in the sense that most people are - when I get them I actually throw the boxes away. Call me crazy if you like, but I prefer to have them out on a shelf where I can see them and I don't have any future plans to sell them for profit. Because of that, I don't like paying too much for them - they were all about $60 when they were new so I'll happily pay that or just a little bit more.

I have the Minichamps F1 road car in 1/43rd scale in both silver and green. I would really love to have the full Minichamps GTR collection, but the costs of those are getting a bit ridiculous. I also have the Maisto F1 road car in blue and green and silver. The quality of the UTs is certainly better. I have no plans to buy any of the Guiloy's - I have seen them and I was not impressed.

EDIT: Oh yeah - and how could I forget my 1/12th scale F1 in blue. I think I paid $375 for it which many would consider outrageous, but is actually somewhat reasonable. I'd like to have the 1/12th in Silver and Green as well, but money doesn't grow on trees.

Not to me because it's not an accurate representation. The wheels aren't either, but there's not a lot I can do about that.

I guess you are asking if the car looks more complete with the wing and I would have to agree that it does break up the long line of the tail end. The rear overhang on the longtail cars is nearly double the overhang on all the other versions of the F1. Without the wing it does make for an odd flat area back there but that's part of the distinction which makes it the F1 GT. I can post some photos later of the GT diecast with and without the wing.

BTW: If I had to pay the price that some people have for the "GTR road car" as it is called, I wouldn't even own one. I have seen them sell for > $120.00 and I certainly didn't like it enough to pay that much. The one I got was without it's box (which is fine with me) and I paid around $60 for it.

While we're on the subject, another F1 diecast collectible I have a problem with is the new 1/43rd scale offering from Minichamps referred to as the "GTR Prototype"

It's an F1 LM - it looks nothing like the true GTR Prototype. Why they didn't just call it an "F1 LM" I will never understand. If they had named it properly, I would most certainly want to own one, but as you can see, the base and even the windshield header say "GTR". If the windshield was accurate I'd probably still be interested, but I just can't stand it when people can't get the basic details right when making these things. Guiloy has this problem as well, which along with their quality issues really makes me lose total interest.

its not accurate. i wanted it too badly. i bid $130 on ebay for one once, but i was out bid with 3 seconds to go by a dollar (i was pissed). But now that i look at it i'd prefur a newer one. i think i'll get an ut road car b4 i get an lm tho.

If it makes you feel any better, you were probably outbid by more than a dollar. Ebay only increases the bid amount by enough to eclipse the current high bid, so he probably placed a much higher bid than just a dollar more. The process of stealing an auction like that is called "sniping" and there are even bidding programs out there which can do it for you automatically. You enter in the maximum you want to pay and it places the bid seconds before the auction ends.

The fact that the auction has a set "ending time" is one of the things I don't like about Ebay. I think they should revise it so it works more like a regular auction where bidding doesn't end until bidding has stopped. In my scenario, bidding would have a set end time and if someone places a bid in the last five minutes, then the auction is extended for an additional five minutes to allow for more bids. They could even do a "Going once... going twice..." thing in the last two minutes. I'm sure it would take major revisions to their software to implement it, but one would think that would allow for a more fair system, and in some cases where one or more people really want an item, it would also result in higher prices for the sellers in the end.

I doubt Ebay is listening though....

Sorry to post after myself, but it's sort of a different subject. If anyone is looking for the FINA short tailed promo car which was only available through BMW dealers, there is one about to sell on Ebay for a very reasonable price:

The last few that I have seen have sold for nearly $300 in this condition. The other BMW promo cars - the #38 & #39 FINA cars - usually sell for about $200.
