Hey all, I'm kind of a new BMW owner, as I just got one from my dad as a present. My baby is a 1985 635csi and I was wondering about where I might be able to get a new "i" emblem since mine seems to have fallen off somewhere along the line... Also I need to have an axle boot replaced and I was wondering if it really IS necessary to go to a BMW dealership to have it done (they're saying it will cost upwards of $300!). I know I can get the part from BavarianAutosport.com, could I take it to a regular licensed mechanic to be done? Thanks in advance for the help!

emblems and boots
The emblem will almost certainly be available from the dealer, and probably cheaper than you can get it off fleabay. E24's are now served by BMW Mobile Tradition, and few parts are NLA for e24's yet.
For your axle boot, ask around your local area for recommendations on well-regarded independent BMW shops. If there's a BMW CCA chapter in your area, they will be a good resource. Don't bother buying a boot, just let your shop supply the part (it's cheap, their markup won't make much difference). Most shops won't guarantee any part you supply; some won't even install owner-supplied parts due to possible liability.
