smells like sh*t
my brother has a 98 volvo glt turbo...n it smells like rotten eggs when he comes to a stop...is this the result of a worn out turbo? If not could somebody please fill me in? thanx in advance.

possibly your catalytic converter's gone bad or just fell off the car completely-kinda like one of my friends. not the brightest person, shifted into reverse going 40mph, his fell off and is sitting in his back seat right now.

haha thats pretty damn funny...well that cat. conv. is still there cuz i took as much of a look as i cud under the car yesterday but it cud b bad...i guess my bro will jus hafta take it in...$10 says that they say there aint nuttin wrong wit it (as usual)...lol

The air/fuel mixture is probably to rich. This is because the rotten egg smell is actually hydrogen sulfide. All gasoline contains sulphur in varying amounts, and a number of things can aggravate the rotten egg smell. The brand of gas you buy may be part of the problem, try switching brands, your current brand may have a high sulphur content. If your a/f ratio is rich, it will give the catalytic converter more unburnt gasoline, and therefor more sulphur. The cat will then produce more hydrogen sulfide and the smell will be more prominent. Check your air filter to see if its clogged, as that can cause a rich condition. It certainly isn't anything to do with your turbo.

Too much sulfur will ruin the cat. After the problem is fixed, get the emissions tested.

actually my bro jus told me that he realli onli notices the smell when he fills up wit texaco...lookes like u were right sluttypatton...thanx for ur help...we r still gonna get it checked to c if there is nething else wrong or if theres ne damage to the cat
