Rc2

IŽve broke the windshield of my AMT Gulstrand GS 90 Corvette 1/25 scale, so IŽve sent a message to AMT asking how I could buy a new part to replace the broken one. The answer that I received is palced bellow:

"Sorry, but RC2 does not carry any replacement items or extra parts, or issue refunds or exchanges for any products purchased from retail stores. If you have a product that is missing items, in need of replacement parts, damaged or defective in any way, or does not meet your expectations, please return it to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange. If it is not possible to return to the place of purchase, you may try exchanging the product at another store near you that carries our products. Thank you."

Well, I was trying to contact the good old AMT, not RC2. Times have changed... It seems that is impossible to get missing itens, replacement parts, damaged or defective parts for AMT kits. Just imagine me asking for a refund or exchange of a kit that I broke the windshield. Just imagine I talking a clerk, in a hooby store, into exchanging a kit with a broken windshield for a perfect new kit. Obviously that RC2 must be kidding me. My conclusion is that if you brake some part or buy an AMT kit with a defective part you have no help from AMT or the controller of AMT. IŽll have to bother the shop that sold it to me. Well, I assume that what RC2 is telling me is that whenever possible donŽt buy a kit from AMT. BTW, anyone have the windshield to sell me?

Been there, done that.

See if your local shop will help you.

I've had good luck with Tamiya, Revell and Testors, my hobby shop has helped me with other brands, but, sometimes your just SOL.

The fact that the manufacturer of AMT kits, RC2, offers no after-purchase support is actually nothing new, they haven't done so as long as I can remember.
From what I understand though, they did once offer this servce, much like R-M does, but due to abuse by people using the service to get free parts for scratchbuilding and customising, they dropped the service.

There is another solution to your problem, you could get some Evergreen clear styrene sheet and make yourself a whole new windshield from that, I know of several people that have resorted to doing that.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The problem with trying to reproduce the windshield of the Gulstrand GS 90 with Evergreen clear sheet is that the shape is a bit complex, with windshield wipers molded in. The part also fits from outside of the body.

I can understand the companies being aware of people looking for free parts, but I want to buy the windshield. I think that IŽll have to forget this kit. ItŽs discontinued and the part will not come easy.

Talking Hi Okiemodelbuilder!

Hi Okiemodelbuilder!

Gee man! YouŽre going to save my life. That Gulstrand is a model that IŽm going to give, as a gift, to my girlfriend. She is pretty impatient waiting for the finished model. You know, women donŽt know much about model car building, they think that a kit can be built overnight. She doesnŽt know that I broke the windshield. I was going over the contents of the box on my bed. I just sat on the poor winshield...

Tell me how much cash youŽll need to send the part over to Brasil. ThatŽs it, I live in Brasil, South America.

Thanks a lot,

May I suggest you edit the post? It is best that you don't leave that information on here.

Guldstrand windshield

Now I remember. I have the remains of an 96 AMT Corvette (have to find it...) that I used to kitbash a 59 AMT Corvette. Probably the 96 Vette windshield fits the AMT Guldstrand GS 90 body.
