Odd Tire Wear

Getting an old tire wear on both front tires. Not sure of the technical terms, but here it is:

The outer edge (edge viewable when facing the side of the truck) is excessively worn while the middle and inner edge appear to be in good condition.

After rotating the tires, the same wear pattern gradually appeared on the new front pair.

When facing the front of the truck, tire front two tires appear as depicted below:

\--------/

Is this normal? Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I've looked at other Xterras and they appear to have the same \------/ look.

Thanks for the help.

You most likely need an alignment. Beyond that the torsion bars might be up to high. An alignment shop should be able to answer both.

Definately sounds like an alignment issue. Could be the camber and/or toe is off. If the suspension settles of if you adjust it yourself in any way the alignment will change. Even small changes in ride height will have an impact on alignment; especially if the alignment was already at the edge of the spec. range.

Look on the bright side; it should be an easy fix. My front right tire only is wearing like that (on the outside) and my tires are this way: /-------\. that pretty much means that I either have a tire problem (very possible considering...) or a bad balljoint or such.

That said, I do think it's actually normal to some extent on the Xterra for tires to wear that way. Obviously if it's that noticeable though, something may be out of whack.

Thanks for the info. I'll have it checked out (due for some new tires as well).
