Good or Stupid idea?

I previously posted this at the end of another thread but I guess nobody saw it there.

I'm about to throw 6-7 grand (USD) in a 95 Eclipse GSX just on performance mods. And the scary thing is, this is with getting the parts off ebay and discount places and the following list does not include the numerous support parts I'll have to throw in. Maybe someone could help me cut down on the price though. Here's what I'm planning:

*New intake
*2.3L Stroker rebuild with lower compression ratio<--- think it's really necessary for running 25+ psi w/o detonation?
*20G Turbo
*Front-mounted intercooler
*Remachined heads (ported/polished)
*New valves, springs, camshaft, etc etc
*GReddy exhaust from performance headers to tip
*New fuel pump
*CenterForce clutch
*660cc or greater injectors
*Completely new ignition

I'm 16 and it's a burn in the wallet to want to run 11's RELIABLY. Any suggestions for what I have up there? Good thing my parents are paying though. I'm gonna take advantage and throw in a nicely accessorized Sparco interior, indiglo everything, undercarriage lights, a system, body kit, and new paint job... ouch

Is all that worth it? I had a stock 94 Z28 till just a few weeks ago but I got tired of it and want to rice something up. But for the money I'm looking to put in the GSX, I could get something better, but then no $$ for mods on either one!

Thanks

It really ticks me off when parents buy their kids race cars for their first vehicle, I wish my mommy and daddy bought me a z28! Im 17 and i have two cars my 90 silverado and my 74 stingray my mom or dad didnt pay a dime. I worked my ass off for three summers just to have my stingray. I hope you have good work ethics and learn how to save and balance your money situations, because your parents buying you everything sure doesnt help. Ok now im done with the lesson "Maybe im just mad because i had to work for my stuff." I dont think you will be able to run in the 11's with just that much stuff, What are you going to do with your transmission so your engine doesnt ruin it. And i hate to tell you but from where i come from but boring out an engine will cost you atleast 1000. cam will cost you around 300, heads will cost you a good 1000, all that exhaust will cost a good 7-800 dollars turbo will run around 2-2500, msd ignition if your going to have that then you need good distributor, wires, coil, spark plugs, a good 700-1000. I dont know you may be able to get it under 6000, but you have to remember about your transmission and other stuff that make the car run as well!

Well I made half of the money in stocks and yes by myself!... parents paying the rest... but trust me they owe me! I also have a 4.0 GPA and I have a scholarship to any university in FL...so the way my mom sees it I deserve something to make me happy lol. Oh yea and about the work... I work in a shop and I can get all the labor done for free or at minimal cost. But I hear you when you talk about good work ethics... a lot of people lack them completely but I try to do my best. My dad is the cheapest man that ever lived even though he has money coming out of his ass. I've never gotten ANYTHING out of him so now it's time for him to make it up before I go to college.

Thats cool that they are paying for all that stuff. I still wish my mom undestood how much i like cars, and I wish that she would pay for some upgrades. She doesnt even wanna pay 150 or so every 6 months for my insurrance. I got my current car, 89 towncar, for free cause it was my dads and he bought a new one. My next car, since this one is dying, I'm also getting for free. It's my dad's girlfriend's mom's car (if you can follow that). She is getting rid of it because she is moving in with my dad and his girlfriend. i have more than enough money to pay for the engien rebuild and the need trans rebiuld, but id have to replace the suspenion and the chasis still has 200,000 so im getting the buick because it has under 45000 miles. And for GPA, in high school it was 3.82, and I recieved more scholarships than you, but my mom wont give me a penny for my car(s) besides her part of the insurance.

It makes me feel alittle bit better now that i know about you making your money through stocks! Knowledge is power. One of my favorite modos! I dont know about yall but doesn't highschool gpa go up to 5.0 instead of 4.0 so a 4.0 isn't all that great! Even though it is better than mine. My blood alcohol level is more than my gpa lol.:o But let me remind you 4.0 dont mean a thing when it comes to engines and racing.

What! 4.0 is straight A's (ie class rank #1). Can't get higher than that on an unweighted GPA.

Wow, someone who's book smart and street stupid. You don't think they let rookie pilots fly the stealth do you? Why not just get a really nice car that doesn't do 0-Coffin in 11 seconds and get some miles under your belt. You'll be happy rollin around in a nice car while your friends are zooming into telephone poles, each other, and the hospital.

I've seen way too many kids that got kick ass fast cars that screwed them all up because they were not experienced enough. And mature enough. If your doing a 11 second quarter you should be doing it on a track.

I WOULD be doing it on the track! I'm too piss scared to try to pull that crap off around here because half the traffic in FL is cops! You DO have a point though... maybe I should settle for something like a nice 944 and spend my money into making it look nice and have a nice system? What's your take on something like that? You're right about accidents... I'd be running a 50/50 chance of injuring myself... maybe a fast fast car should wait till during (if i have the $$ then) or after college?

Durring college it is a must to have a car with cruise control.... you WILL probably end up driving drunk and just setting the cruise control can free your mind from worrying about the speed and you can focus on driving straight and all of the other drunk idiots on the road.
