Im doing the exhasts on my 911GT1 and the reference pics ive got show that theres a lot of that heat reflective foil around them where the exhasts go through the suspension wishbones. Ive tried making this with plain old tinfoil, but it doesnt look right. Would it be a good idea to glue it to something to make it thicker? Ideas would be much appreciated!

I've used the foil from cigerette boxes and chewing gum wrappers.
There are various textures... Lead foil from wine bottles may also work, just shine it up with a little steel wool.

On my NSX I put some adhesive metal foil (ie Bare Metal Foil) on a single ply of two-ply toilet paper. Then I put it on something soft, my mouse pad, and smooshed it with my fingers to give it the crinkly texture. Then I used white glue to attach it to the firewall. I don't know how well this would work on something as irregular suspension arms, but thats what and how I did mine.

If your low on budget just use aluminum foil.

Place a small section of screen material matching the pattern you want on top of bare metal foil. (while still on the original backing paper)
Burnish the screen into the foil making the pattern. Then cut out and apply using a cotton bud. You will want to use a very small quantity of glue to help hold it in place. Looks much better than any other method I have tried. David |
