Question 1.8t Vs Vr6 ????

Hey, I am debating the purchase of a new or used Jetta IV. However I am unsure about which model I should go for. I plan to do many upgrades and it seems as though I can eventually get the same power for the same prices out of each model. So what should I do? What will be the major differances with respect to performance, upgrades, etc. Please give me some help with this decision.

Thanks a lot

If u do a little reasearch youd find that u can easily upgrade the turbo it will cost about 2000 and most u can find inter coolers too which would put u at about 235hp & 220tq but mind u it doesnt really kickin untill the turbo spools. This a more straight strip and drag setup. The Vr6 is a more streetable engine that stk has about 205 hp and 195 tq and with exhaust computer and intake could easily push about 215 -220hp and about 210 215 Tq which is Excellent for Auto-X or street. I woud suggest sus mods and if u get the 17" Tire upgrade to about 215/40or45/17.

The 1.8 is definitely easier to mod, but it runs into the wall at about 350 whp. You run like 15 psi on the 1.8, and you're lookin at 300 hp. You run 15 psi on the vr6, and you're lookin at like 400 hp. The vr6 is a lot safer to have big numbers on. Plus, it sounds better eheh. me? I'm goin 2.0 super, and I'm still going to get 350whp out of it. It's just going to cost ungodly amounts of money. Lots of custom work.

Yea, you're way wrong.

2002-2003 1.8T = 180hp 180torque ... However, on the dyno after break-in, they put down more like 190hp and 200 torque at the flywheel. The 1.8T is more fun to drive and easier to toss around compared to the VR6 which is a little more nose-heavy. The 1.8T only requires a chip to boost it to about 210 wheel horsepower and 240wheel torque. The stock k03 turbo is good for about 350hp before it becomes a risk of failure. Whichever car you get, I would suggest Suspension before engine mods. These cars are 'blessed' with a solid rear axle suspension which is very poor. Add that to the very soft suspension and you have tons of body roll.

OK, i just bought a 98" Jetta GLS, and i need some info from some knowledgeable Jetta owners. Is there any stock or aftermarket turbo or supercharger applications for the 2.0 liter displacement? And is what are some other power options for it?Any info would help.

damn umm go to a junk yard and look for a 1.8T.... u have pretty much ran into a wall with the 2.0.. u can do intake and exhaust but after that the 2.0 is useless... i mean a good motor but useless. i would suggest u upgrade the ignition and cams too.. turbo cams and a custom turbo run u about 1750 or so for the cams and turbo build and a custom inter cooler if u can get a mandrel bender and some one to make a manifold.... neu speed has superchargers they cost like 2800 on nopionline.com

1.8t? You're an idiot. The 1.8 is a joke. The differences between the 2.0 and 1.8t blocks minor, the major exception being the 2.0 has more displacement, and more NA horsepower. A lot more. With only a little bit of money, you can make the 2.0 safe for 20 lbs of boost. About the same amount of money it would take to make a 1.8t capable of the same amount. Lets look at it this way...a 1.8t with 15 psi will put out less hp than a 2.0 with 15 psi behind it.

Before you open your mouth, do a little research. I know a guy with an 8v 2.0 that ran an 11.4 and is pulling 350 whp on a stock head. That's faster than any NA vr6 in the world, and also faster than any vr6 turbo, except the ones built by shops.

This 2.0 wasn't shop-built, just some guy who wanted to see what he could do with 8 valves.

oh lala,,, so much confusion..... all depend wath you want to do with the car...
hmm if it`s for drag i`ll take if i was you... 1st 1.8t or the 2.0 16v from the passat, let`s face it you can kick a vr6..

but if you want speed sensation, you defently need a vr6. mathematicly the concept of those 4 cyl have a hell of a kick from o - 100 mph

but the vr6 well mod as the 1.8 or 2.0 keep is accelaration up to 160 mph without getting tired.

mine get kicked in 1/4 miles, but i always get my money back with some extras when we it the highway.

Before you open your mouth, recognise that most of the B.S. posts on this (or any) forum begin with "I know a guy." Show some proof when you make claims that don't add-up, like 350hp 4-cyl VW's doing mid-11's...
