Porsche 914/6GT '70 Le Mans 24

Engine: Fujimi Enthusiast Porsche 911/930 Paint: Tamiya Bright White – from the can, no clear Accents: Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black – airbrushed Decals: DMC various sheets Since Porsche’s beginning every car they have produced has had to prove its mettle on a race track. The 914 was no different.Soon after its introduction, in the fall of ’69, the competition department got hold of the 914 with purpose of developing a racing package. Known as a 914/6GT the package included adding steel flares to fit wider tires, welding in chassis stiffening and bolting on uprated brakes and suspension. Three versions were offered to the public, a fast street/weekend racer, a 160bhp rally version and the full-house 220bhp competition version. This car (chassis # 914 043 1020) is one of only 12 factory built GTs. Powered by a 2.0-litre flat-six 901/20 engine (used in the 911R and the 906) it was entered in the 1970 Le Mans 24 under the guise of Porsche’s French Importer, Sonauto. How did it do? Won the GT class beating all comers including a couple of Corvettes and every Porsche 911 entered.In fact it finished an astounding 6th OA bested only by Porsche’s on purpose built prototypes (917K, 917LH & 908/2) and a couple from Ferrari (512S).

 I'll have my resin kit soon, picked up a Fujimi '74 RS 4.0 sans wheels yesterday from a friend to use as the donor.
