1999 chevy malibu fuel filter disconnect broke?

I was trying to get off the fuel filter. It has a black ring thing over a metal line and the filter goes into this and locks I can't get the quick disconnect side out. All the black plastic side is broke off. I tried prying but nothing helps. Am I going to have to replace whole line or am I doing something wrong?

not sure but the black piece thats broke is some kind of cover(not sure)
but under it you still have the clips that need to be squeezed in to release.

the cap should be squeezed to remove, you broke the hole piece off
or just part of it broke??
either way,by looking at it closely you should be able to see what was being pushed in.if i remember right with the cap removed it looks
simular to the ones GM use.if you know what they look like.
Good luck

not sure if you can use a regular q/connect

Good luck

Re: 1999 chevy malibu fuel filter disconnect broke?

yep it's all missing. Somebody told me if you can break the whole quick disconnect out you might be able to replace it but I think I'm going to take it to the shop because replacing that line will be a big job with removing the tank, etc. God I'm bout to be broke. and I'm not even sure the fuel filter is the problem. I sure hope it isn't the pump or injectors. The pump is energizing when the ignition is on but you never know.

Use a 1/2 inch open end wrench, put it between the plastic part and can and pry.

if your thinking of replacing the q/connect with a hose & clamp
it will not work.there is too much pressure & it will leak.
you can try a repair kit.its a piece of hose with q/c end that
splices into exsisting line.
