'55 Chevy Stepside Pick-Up
This is my other project I started.
I really love these old pick-ups very much. (i hate the modern though ) It was time to build one.I picked this AMT kit from my pile. It's not the best kit but it has potential. This is what's inside the box: ![]() ![]() The original wheels are nice under this car, but i wanted someting more custom. I found these left over wheels from the 2009 Challenger. I needed to customize the wheels to fit in normal tyres. They look pretty cool I think. ![]() ![]() ![]() I think red is an awesome color for this truck. I chosed Mars Red by VW for the Chevy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I immidiatelly started with the wooden thrunk. First I wanted to replace it with real wood, but I didn't succeded, so I just painted the plastic wood with different brown paints. After that I added BMF on the strips. Now it needs to be clearcoated with 2K. ![]() I also sanded the body and did some modifications to fit the hood. The fittment is pretty bad as far as I can see. Kris.

That wood looks great.
If you had told me it was real wood, I would have believed it!!!!! That color of wood will look good with the red too. Nice once again Kris! Andy |

Re: '55 Chevy Stepside Pick-Up
New update.
I started with the engine like the instructions told me. I painted the engine red and aluminium. ![]() ![]() I added the DetailMaster distributor and sparkplugs. I made the boots from a left over black tubing. ![]() ![]() ![]() And mounted them. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also added some extra plumbing. I don't know what they are used for but I think it's for vacum or something. I also made a throttle cable from a little spring and some other scratchbuild parts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The hood doesn't fit properly. First I mounted it in place and reshaped it with a file and sandingpaper. Now it's much better! ![]() Next week I'll continue with this project! Happy NewYear everybody! Kris.

Re: '55 Chevy Stepside Pick-Up
This week I started on the bodywork. I heard the windows didn't fitt good, so I checked it and indeed they really don't fitt! So I had to sand, file, and putty the windowframes to fitt the glasses.
![]() ![]() I also primered the hood to see if the puttywork was smooth. ![]() The thrunk was made of separate parts, and didn't fitt good. So first I started to remove some plastic to increase the thickness of the wheelarches. Now the wheels will fitt in there. Then I assembled the whole thrunk and did some puttywork. I'll mask off the wooden bed when I primer and paint everything. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: '55 Chevy Stepside Pick-Up
The wheels you chose look fantastic as does the work you are doing on this model.
I know you say it's a bad model, but from my experience, this is one of the best models I've ever built due to the fact that it has just enough detail and fit and finish are far superior to other U.S. kits for the time it was produced. Plus AMT used that softer plastic which was WAY easier to work with when customizing. I'm keeping my eyes on this one.

Re: '55 Chevy Stepside Pick-Up
New update. I finished the interior of the truck. I replaced the big sofa with 2 normal seats. I painted it Light Grey (tamiya) and I also added red interiorflocking. It's just a basic interior.
![]() ![]() ![]() The enginebay was a bit boring in red, so I masked it off and painted it flat black. I also installed the interior. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also glued the engine on the chassis. ![]() ![]() ![]() The thrunk and cabine were also glued to the chassis. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I dechromed the exhausts and painted them with Aclad paints. I replaced the ends with aluminiumtube. The original suspension is all gone and I used some steel rods to fix the wheels. Behind the wheels there are drilled out Corvette brakes. I also added the battery and detailed it a bit. The waterhose was replaced with braided wire. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Meanwhile I only have to place the rearlights and give the body a polish. Kris.
