96 dakota stuck in first

1996 dakota v8 automatic 4x4. tranny rebuilt 3 years ago got stuck in the mud and every since then it is stuck in first. wont shift no matter what i tried to adjust the tv cable and it didnt help at all. dont know much about dodge transmissions iv always worked on 4l60e in chevys. i dont know were to start. could somebody please tell me were to start. iv been reading about the governor valve and shift selnoids are there any way to test any of this? first pulls strong and reverse works

Here's a dumb one to try. I'm no expert but... Since you went mudding, have you checked the shift control connector on the Driver side of tranny. (Looks like it shouldn't be there) It has 4 to 5 pins inside. Clean out the (mud) from the connector with (right now) ANYTHING. Card cleaner works. Let it dry. Add dielectric grease inside and reconnect. If it works... Great! If not... I tried.
