Ignition key stuck in.
2005 Aveo. Hey folks, is there a solenoid that prevents the ignition key from coming out, or if I can't get the key out, is the ignition switch shot? Thanks.

Re: Ignition key stuck in.
Gotta ask the obvious--
Did you move the steering wheel a little to see if it would take the pressure off the key? |

Re: Ignition key stuck in.
Floor shift? Key in column? Most GM's have a lock solenoid in the column, and there usually is an access under the column near key(may have a cover), where you can insert a screwdriver to push up on a plunger, to release key......problem could be BTSI solenoid, a broken wire, or bad lock solenoid...have seen a lot of broken wires....

Re: Ignition key stuck in.
Yes, we tried that. It is a console shift and we moved that around in the "Park" area while simultaneously trying to get the key out with no luck. Also made sure the brake was applied. I tried taking off the stuff around the steering column, but for my first attempt, could not figure out how it comes apart without worrying about breaking it.

Re: Ignition key stuck in.
Yes and yes. I will have to open up the steering column to take a look.
