used airbag question=-

1998 base model lumina,170,000 miles on it.
the blue steering wheel is starting to look very used.
i was in a "pick-a-part" yard and saw a 1998 monte carlo and got this idea.
replace my old lumina wheel with the nice black leather wrapped monte carlo wheel and airbag.

my mechanic is chevy factory trained and owns a lumina and already did it to his car. but he didn,t change the airbag.

question = do you guys think i,ll be taking unnecessary risk putting a salvage yard wheel and airbag on my car?

how about just the monte steering wheel?

what,s the risk? do used airbags malfunction often even if installed properly?

thanks for any advice .

Re: used airbag question=-

There is no way to answer this, I assume your old bag doesn't fit the wheel you are buying, In NYS you cannot buy used SIRS parts at all because of liability issues for malfunctions. If you install the used airbag and wheel and there is an issue you will know when it goes thru self daignostics, be aware this is very general advice and any work done on the SIRS does carry some risk. I would suggest reading up on the proper handling of these components.

Max
The monte carlo is 1998 and the lumina is 1998.The lumina airbag looks to physically fit right into the monte carlo wheel. I,m going to a chevy dealer with vin #,s for more peace of mind.

Thanks for your advice.
