Traction Control out

Well lets see, drove the 2003 montana van saturday everything was fine.

No one drove it until we went out late sunday around supper time, got in the van and fired it up, the traction control needs service display came on, stayed on for a bit then went out, the no traction control light also came on on the right hand side of the dash telling me that I either turned it off or whatever, it has remained on. The service display comes on every time we start the van. Took it out yesterday on to the highway, hmmm cruise control works but after 4-40 seconds just kicks out like I hit the brake pedal. Hit resume and it resumes and kicks out again. Shut the van off went into a place, came out and since I was in town no way to test it again, so went to my next stop and turned it off again, now the display and stuff still indicates a problem with the traction control. Left that place headed to the garage. Hmmm cruise control is now working fine. Very busy but he brought out his mactools or whoever makes it code machine, seems the only thing it is spitting out is a stop switch code, I have no brake lights, center LED one works but the other 2 don't. I still have to check the bulbs and sockets for voltage. But sounds like there really is a brake switch problem.
My dilemma is I am very near sighted, wide shoulders, wider than the space between the seat and the front piller is so very had to get under the dash. I got the cover off and find 2 switches. Being I can't get in close enough and the eyesight that it is I can't see to figure out how they come off. Anyone know? Anyone have any idea which one it could be? Top switch seems to have on 2 wires on it and is small, the bottom one has at least 4 wires on it.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree? ANTILOCK Brakes are not showing an error code, no light is on for service and I hammered on them good this morning on a slightly damp road with no one around and they are working.

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Traction Control out

Well I seem to have cured the traction control light, since both tail lights where out and with what a few had said on the forums here that their could very well be corrosion on the circuit board. I took the drivers side out and as I knew before the brake light socket gets HOT and melts and allows the 1 connection to melt plastic in the socket and to oxidise the one wire on the bulb. I actually took all the sockets out and checked everything inside, all clean, cleaned the contact best I could and cleaned the bulb up also. Ok that side now works, took the other side out and swapped the bulbs top to bottom, I really don't know why they are the same bulbs other than to allow you to swap them out like I did and as the top one only uses half the bulb, there are no contacts in the socket for the other half. Put it back together as it was now working and low and behold no more traction control light.

Now my question is, has anyone tried LED lights in there? Do they draw less current? If they do then less heat in them when sitting at a light waiting for it to turn.

Re: Traction Control out

Dont suppose you remember the exact code? There are four that relate to the stop lamp switch/circut: 1238, 1291, 1294 and 1295.

The stop lamp switch is the top of the two switches, sometimes they just pull straight out, sometimes they twist counterclockwise then pull out.

Check the stop lamp fuse. I/P fuse box 15amp fuse. Should be labled "Stop Lamp"

I see you figured it out while I was typing, GREAT!

Re: Traction Control out

Thanks for the reply gmtech1 but I seemed to have cured the problem. Guess it didn't show up here before you posted as I posted it like 3 minutes before your reply.

Thanks
