High RPM's
Took a look around the forum and seen a few post eluding to shift points that seem high. Right now mine definitely doesn't feel right. When its cold it is shifting at about 3,500 1-2, 3,000 2-3 and it usually drops pretty quickly into 4th. Might just be my observation of something with a 6 instead of my truck with the 5.3 but it still seems a bit high. Once it warms up the shift points seem to be a little lower but not like the truck either.
Anyway because I don't know the maintenance history on this ride I plan to take it over to the local transmission shop I use for a fluid and filter change. Just wondering if anyone had any answers for the higher RPM's I am seeing. Oh and have to say I love driving this thing. Wish I would have gotten one with fewer miles now.. ![]() Greg

Re: High RPM's
Many things can cause this, no mention of mileage/maintenance, but a full scan is in order here including trans codes.

Re: High RPM's
Sorry forgot the basics I have been floating around here enough you would think I would remember. Anyway:
2003 Trailblazer 4.2L L6 170,300 miles I have no idea of the past maintenance practices so I have been going piece by piece and doing what I can with the cash I have. Regular maintenance items that is. I don't have a transmission scanner on hand but did scan with the scanner I have and there are no stored codes. Calling the local shop I work with tomorrow. They will pull any codes for me.

Re: High RPM's
Just to follow up on this thread..
I took the trailblazer over to a local mechanic I trust that specializes in transmissions. Said it didn't seem like the transmission but maybe a lack of power. Told him my story of just buying it a few weeks ago and he said they would take a look... Now the embarrassing part.. The air filter was clogged solid and he put a fuel filter on for good measure. I pick it up tomorrow. While I was embarrassed because I should have check the simple stuff first I was glad it was not a transmission issue.
