Any fellow hypermilers?
My wife and I bought a 2007 Ford Focus S MT with 30k miles, for $5,000 a couple months ago. Salvage title ftw.
![]() Anyways, it's my DD and have managed 32.7mpg on last tank (70% city driving) and 28mpg the tank before that (80% city driving, more aggressive driving). I plan on hitting at least 35mpg with at least 80% city driving. Was wondering if anyone else out there has been able to sip fuel from this peppy 2.0 engine. |

Re: Any fellow hypermilers?
Hey Rabbit, Nice steal/price! I only managed at best 32mpg when my car was new its first 500 miles I babied it not revving it above 3200 between shifts and no more than 65mph on the hi-way. Mostly the average has been 29mpg (80% hi-way). Since this spring my mpg computer is showing 31-32mpg dipping to 30 if its 90-100F and the air is on. I drive 70-80mph traffic permitting or not! I never tried it but maybe if you stay near 55mph on hi-way you may get closer to 34mpg; and make use of downhill grades these cars coast (manual trans neutral) tremendously. Also Change air intake filter at 12,000 mi. its a noticable difference in performance. Its a small filter that packs dirt quickly.

Yesterday, it was 97, and I did not use the AC except on interstate (where it is more economical to run AC than to run with windows down). You'd be surprised what tricks work for fuel economy.I accelerate at a rate of 1mph/sec. Slow. ![]() Last tank was 39.2 mpg. =D
