Tamiya Escort Cosworth "Bastos"

(Posted this on F1M, thought I'd put it here too...)This is a classic Tamiya kit and the real car has been seen in so many classic attractive liveries – Bastos is one of my favourites.
This is Patrick Snyjers’ 1994 Ypres 24hr Rally winner, the decals are Studio27 and the wheels are Racing43, with photo-etch from Renaissance and seatbelt materiel from Studio27.
A nice quick build with straight-forward masking job for the red and white. Sprayed with Tamiya TS sprays, detail painted with Tamiya X- and XF- acrylics. The decals, despite being quite old, settled down nicely with the usual softeners, and the kit is excellent. The only thing I had to do was correct the rear area of the rollcage so the seat belts could be attached properly.
Decals and wheels from Domino, kit from eBay.

Very well done!

Maybe for your next model you could improve the way the seatbelts attach to the rollcage - it's quite visible on the completed model.

Re: Tamiya Escort Cosworth "Bastos"

Is the basement well fixed on the body because the car looks a bit too high ?

Bastos decoration is my favourite too and the Escort is THE rally car.
All is really clean ... maybe too clean ;-)

Nicely done, looks great with the Bastos livery, I agree with one of the previous comments that the rear especially appears to sit a bit too high and the wheels seem to be a bit too wide for the body in a couple of the pictures.

Really nice job. Wonder what color you used? I found TS 49 too light and went with X7. How did you get on?

Re: Tamiya Escort Cosworth "Bastos"

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

To answer a couple of them - yes the back does appear a little high and I have never experienced this with this kit before. The chassis is slotted home correctly and everything built normally. Dunno. Also the wheels are cast aluminium and have a slightly different offset to the standard kit ones. Both these things look worse in the pictures than when viewed "in the flesh".
And I agree about the seatbelts. Came undone after I'd finished it and there was no way it was coming apart again! Hardly noticable, but fair comment! I think I cut the straps slightly too short, could have done with an extra 5mm. Learnt for next time.
And the red was TS-8

Looks great.
And indeed it is a classic livery which suits the car well.

I'm planning to build one of those (in the inevitable Martini livery) and also ordered the Racing43 wheels. I'll pay special attention to the positioning of the wheels. And also to the ride height of the car.
