Question Prob with the 97 4wd upgrade kit

So I did the thermal actuator to motor-driven front axle actuator upgrade. Works great except the 4 Hi or Lo light never goes steady even though it is in 4wd. If I put in in 4wd and, with the key still on, I unscrew the new actuator and stick a socket extension in, I can push whatever is in the axle another 1/4 of and inch and the light goes steady. The adapter plug that goes in before screwing in the actuator that I have is 3/4 of and inch thick. Is there a thicker adaptor? Say 7/8ths to 1 inch? Does this post even make sense?
