Exclamation no power up hill

It runs good on flat ground but when I start to go up hill it feels like I'm pulling a cement truck. Giving it gas does nothing.
1983 carb. 2.8 v6 manual trans.
Millage unknown, broken gauge.
add your here...

remove the O2 sensor, drive with the hole open....could be bad converter if it does run better with the hole open..could also be a pluged muffler..

did you test out the restricted exhaust which I suggested ?

lets say I am correct the exhaust is restricted. the converter has melted down/clogged with carbon. first you must insure the engine is running properly.

If your carb or the fuel evap/vent system is defective this can cause the new converter to be damaged by trying to consume all the unburned fuel that this defect may create.

I have seen this before. looks like a glowing fire pit!
