Question Bad Idle 98 Lumina 3.1

My car has been running great till the other day. I got into the car to go to work when the car wouldn't start. I would put the key in the ignition and everything seemed ok lights etc...but when I turn the key, the lights would turn off and the car would not start. No cloicking no nuthin.

I then took the battery out and had it checked and all is ok with it...I even cleaned the terminals.

I then put the battery back in and this time it starts. But now the idle is bad. It will randomly rev the engine like I was pressing the gas pedal, but I'm not.

I was gonna try to drive it around the block but it would stutter like it was going to die...

Any ideas?

Re: Bad Idle 98 Lumina 3.1

since you removed the battery it may need to reset itself, by idling/driving
it may/should clear itself
but if im mistaken someone will chime in
i guess bad connection caused the no start?
good luck

Yeah it's hunting for idle speed, the idle memory disappears after 10 mins or so of no power.

If you have a factory stereo, it's probably locked out too.

Drive it, it may die when you stop, or idle too high or low, but it should recover after 20 mins or so of driving.

Or you can set the ebrake, chock the wheels, start it and let it run in gear for a while...it'll sort it out on it's own...

Cool! I will try that when I get off of work this evening!
