How does one check the heated seat elements?

Can anyone tell me what wires to ohm to check the heated seat elements? This is an 04 Impala SS with the Indy 500 package. It has both seats heated. Thankz in advance.

Re: How does one check the heated seat elements?

The seat backs are on a 2 way green connector under each seat. Ohm check the two terminals -should be .5 to 2 ohms. The seat cushions are on a 4 way black connector under each seat. Ohm check the red/white and brown wire terminals for .5 to 2 ohms, also. Test with ignition off and each connector apart, before ohm checking the end that is wired in to the seat back or cushion. I did this test on my 2000 Impala - it takes a little patience and a good light to illuminate the color of the wires. Incidently, I found my drivers seat back was an open circuit and because it is wired in series with the seat cushion the entire heated seat does not work. The element is broken somewhere in the seat back. If your elements test good, the heated seat relay or the thermistor circuit in the seat cushion (the other 2 wires in the 4 way connectors) could be the cause of an inoperative heated seat. The BCM , fuses and on/off switches also play a role.

Re: How does one check the heated seat elements?

Thanks for the info! Tested the passenger seat first just 'cause that side was closer to the garage door. The elements tested good but there was no power at the little orange wire on the switch. Fuses and breaker tested good so I ran a B+ wire to the orange on a backprobe. That lit the passenger seat and it warmed right up! Now I just have to find out where the power is supposed to come from and trace it. Anyone have a diagram of that?
As for the driver's seat, it tested open on both elements. I guess I'll be opening up the cover on that side.
Thanks again for the reply.

Re: How does one check the heated seat elements?

Power (+12 Volts) is supplied to the heated power seat switch by the BCM load management control circuit on the orange wire. Try starting the vehicle and check for power. If there still isn't any voltage on that wire there may be a broken circuit or the BCM has a problem.
