Transmission Questions

Wondering where you guys buy your transmission parts from. I know someone, (I think it was transman), posted a link for me a while ago, but I can't find it.

Was thinking about doing some general upgrades to the old 4l60e before it starts having issues.

Was thinking....
-deep pan with drain plug
-upgrading to dexron 5
-corvette servo
-upgraded check balls and seperator plate

What you guys think?

Re: Transmission Questions

All of what you listed I believe can be had with an FLT or Performabuilt transmission.

Your biggest ticking time bomb is the sun shell/gear.

Re: Transmission Questions

I get my Transgo Kits from www.700r4l60e.com. I have installed Transgo Kits in my 90 GMC (700R4) and in a 96 LT1/4L60E car. If you are going to replace the spacer plate/check balls, you might as well install a Transgo Kit. I was really happy with the kit on my 96 car.

For the Deep Pan, you can find them on most 2000 and newer GM Trucks and SUVs. I recently bought a 2005 Sierra and will be installing a Transgo kit soon.

For good used or reman parts, VB's rebuilt and tested Carlyn for most all "hard parts" and they ship everywhere. (800)220-1774. For soft parts, solenoids (most), mounts, axles and more other stuff then you can shake a stick at call (800)220-0020 Part-Rite and ask for Bill.s.com/

Walk away from Dayco rebuilt stuff.

For a extra good quaility liftime rebuilt converter.

Re: Transmission Questions

Tight, sounds good, thanks guys!

What are the symptoms of a bad sun gear? I have heard of these trucks losing revers and overdrive.

Re: Transmission Questions

Also would upgrading to corvette servos cause more likelyhood of hard part failure? ie. sungear?

If you have not lost any gear your sun shell gear is holding but if you go into the transmission always upgrade it to the beast or a heavey sun shell gear.

Shift kits or corvette servos that give any kind of hard rough shift will put more strain on transmission hard parts and drive train parts.
I always like a good smoth shift that you can hardley feel.

I forgot to tell you on clutch plates go BW or raybestes clutch plates.
Good Luck

Re: Transmission Questions

Are you rebuilding your trans or doing some upgrades to help it live longer?

The transgo kit addresses some weaknesses of the 4l60e (3/4 clutch pack burning up for example). The vette servo by itself is not going to cause a sun gear failure. The vette servo comes stock on many cars (Camaros, Firebirds (rest in peace), Impala SS, etc).

Shifts kits can be customized from mild to wild. In my case, I wanted to help my 4L60E live a long life so I went mild. Partial shifts are crisp but not bone jarring. Full throttle shifts are very crisp and quick.

Re: Transmission Questions

Just upgrading, not rebuilding.

I'll probably go with a mild transgo kit with corvette servo and new seperator plate with upgraded check balls.
